• Chamber succeeds in delaying WDC HQ

    Yesterday, the following statement by Councillor Mobbs was issued by Chris Elliott, Chief Executive of WDC and follows a recent meeting with him on the Covent Garden redevelopment. The Chamber and BID Leamington had recommended a postponement of the project for 12 months and whilst this hasn’t yet been achieved the voices of The Chamber and BID have been listened to.

    Covent Garden Car Park Update

    Warwick District Council is planning to redevelop the Covent Garden car park to include a new Head Office together with residential apartments and a multi-story car park.  Representatives of the Leamington Chamber of Trade and BID Leamington have spent many hours discussing the proposals with Warwick District Council Officers, but there continue to be a number of areas about which we have serious concerns.

    468 Car Parking Spaces to Disappear!

    Warwick District Council has submitted a planning application for the development of Covent Garden Car Park. The plan includes the relocation of 365 council staff from Riverside House, the construction of 44 apartments and car parking for 611 spaces. Whilst the Chamber welcomes quality developments that enhance our town centre, we have serious concerns regarding this application and, at an Emergency Executives’ Meeting on Tuesday 31st November, we voted unanimously to lodge a formal objection.
