    Chamber Judges Young Enterprise Teams

The Chamber was delighted to provide a member to judge the teams at the Young Enterprise Awards this month.

Maxine Howe, local business owner and Vice Chair of the Leamington Chamber of Trade, volunteered to help judge the Warwickshire heats in the nationwide competition.

Students from 6 Warwickshire schools formed teams to set up their own business ventures. Throughout the process, they gained experience in all aspects of running a company, from raising the initial share capital through to designing their product or service, to selling directly to customers and ultimately winding up the company and paying their taxes.

The enterprises were judged in three phases, the first being their trade stands. Each company had to set up and sell their product on trade stands within the Royal Priors Shopping Centre. Phases two and three included writing a company report and making a presentation pitch to the judges.

“The standards were extremely high and the attention to detail, particularly the product development and branding, was most impressive. Our congatulations go to teams Aptus and Nova who go through to the next stage” – Maxine Howe

Young Enterprise is the United Kingdom’s largest business and enterprise education charity. Every year they help 250,000 young people learn about business and the world of work in the classroom. Guidance is provided by a network of 5,000 volunteers from 3,500 companies.
